I thought it was interesting that robot-driven comments on blogs are the new way to spam the world with stuff we don't need. How come I never get spam for stuff I need like new guitars? In the email world, legislation finally caught up and made spam activities criminal and there's been a few high profile cases over the last few years where some significant spammers were shut down and in some cases, locked up. I wonder how long it will take legislation to catch up with the definition of which blog comments are spam and which ones are valid?
Anyway, there is an extension for Blogengine.net that ties into Akismet's comment spam blocker. I haven't looked at how it works underneath but assume it looks at content and source IPs. Installation is easy but to get it to work you have to have a WordPress blog. Here's a link to how to set it up and where to download the extension:

Just go to WordPress, sign up for a free blog, activate it, then go to the blog's profile and grab your API key. Finally, configure that API key and the URL of the blog you set up on WordPress into the extension. It's a nice solution and I've noticed a dramatic drop in spam blog comments. Either that or all of a sudden a lot less people in the world find my blog posts the most inspiring and insiteful they've read and worth bookmarking...
